The height of a light

What a beautiful room.

I am particularly fascinated by the height of the chandelier. It looks divine hanging quite low and something I would love the try. Does anyone have any thoughts though on it's practicality? I have very high ceilings and certainly I could try it, just not sure whether people have bumped their heads or is it a case of who cares - as long as it looks fabulous?

Gorgeous room and chandelier from here. x

  1. Oh I just love chandeliers, the room is so pretty and peaceful.

I guess if it was over the coffee table you wouldn't bump it :o

  2. It's a beautiful chandelier. I think that a low chandelier over a table (dining or coffee table) would work well.

  4. I too have contemplated the practicalities of the strategically placed low chandelier...two problems: 1) my boyfriend HATES chandeliers and will not have one in our house, boo hiss! 2) said boyfriend is 6 foot 7....hehehe so even if I was allowed - a low one not going to happen. Beautiful room though, I have wanted the similar Ikea coffee table for awhile

  5. Everyone has said what I was going to say starting with my mate Dustjacket Attic....Over a coffee table is good, so no bruising of heads, and I have a light fitting in the corner of the room, so you can have it a bit lower. I think that I know that whatever you do, it will look great....anyone who has Plantation shutters has good taste !!!!He He XXXX

  6. That is just a gorgeous room! I do love the look of chandeliers. In terms of practicality, I just know I'd have the hardest time keeping it clean. I imagine it would lose a bit of its beauty when covered in layers of dust because my housekeeping leaves much to be desired!

  7. My ceilings are three and a half metres high, and I've got low(ish) hanging retro pendants in my living room. I'm only just over 5 foot, had them put at a height that means I can change the bulb by standing on my three-step ladder. Practical, but also really eye catching.

  8. It is a beautiful room and that chandelier is just gorgeous. I know my hubby would never let me hang one at that height and in the middle of the room :( but if I could I would as it looks amazing (and oh I'll also paint the walls pink)...dreaming ;)

  9. I am such a klutz that even if the chandelier were hanging over a table, I'd still find a way to smash my head on it!! That's a beautiful one in this photo, and I do like this low look, too. xo

  11. Hi Kellie I have low ceilings and chandeliers in my bathrooms and ensuite. I have a tall husband and sons, they soon learn to 'duck' or be knocked out!! LOL. No really they were hung to just come to the top of the head of the tallest family member. Another one hangs over my bed, so there is no problem with that!!

  14. hmmm, if it's over a coffee table like that...who cares. i've also seen them haning low, down beside a bed or in the corner of a room, really low too, like at your waist length. pretty fabulous like you said to adjust the height, adding drama and going around the "rules" of decorating. fun!

  23. this is so stunning. it's deceiving but i think it's hanging over the sofa so you wouldn't really bump into it, but very tall people would have to be careful!

    i'd say "do it"!!

  24. Gorgeous room. I'd be a bit afraid of folks (esp. me!) bumping their heads, but I love the intimacy it gives to the seating area.

  26. Wow absolutely amazing. I would love to have a chandelier one day! And a room filled with light like this one.

  27. I think the room definitely needs the chandelier to hang that low - would feel too 'bare' otherwise as the the decor is predominantly layered white.
I dream about what the room would look like with golden afternoon light hitting the crystals at that low angle as well.. Wonderful!

  28. it's a great idea, but easiest to hang it over a table or a bed
