The odd couple

That's my Mum and I. The odd couple.

I just realised... I just liked that picture and it made me laugh! Neither represents my darling Mum or I haha!

Mum likes neutrals, I like brights. The half is glass empty in Mum's eye's, the glass is half full in mine. Mum thinks of every detail first, I worry about the details later...

It's amazing how two people, so close, could be so different. We had another of those conversations last night, my great idea to me, would lead to 'financial ruin' in Mum's eyes. How funny.

Made me think, do you always take the advice of others or just give it shot? Kellie xx

  1. Bonjour Kellie - sounds like you and your Mum get along just fine - that's what I call complimentary personalities - one evens out the other. My best friendships are like that and I wouldn't have it any other way. xx

  4. My mom and I were just having the conversation today about how mothers and daughters can be so different...and then I came to your post...so funny how life works like that sometimes.

In my case, my mom and I have very similar tastes, and I have to admit I may be a little reluctant to go forward with a choice without her approval, but at the end of the day I really just trust in my own taste/instincts and give it a shot!

  6. Can't wait to see your Mum's reaction to this post Kellie!
I'm very much like you however becoming a stepmother has made me realise that it's a good plan to be able to give and receive advice - especially from your mother!

PS Is that the dress that Cate wore to the Oscars?

  7. My Mum always says go with your gut, if it doesn't feel right then don't do it. Trust your instincts.

  12. Give it a shot Kellie! I believe I have the same dynamic with my mum too, but I'm unfortunately not as daring and adventurous as you. Go with what your heart tells you...don't be guided by those that hold you back. xx Danielle

  13. So funny! Love that photo. I never take anyone's advice. It always surprises me why my daughter doesn't take mine! After all I have years of experience in life and I'm full of wisdom. :)

  14. Someone beat me to it....thats Cate Blanchetts dress from the Oscars! Love her hair too and the adorable dog, what a fun photo.

My mom and I are pretty different too. I realized when we were at the crowded Flower Show that she was stressing so much because people were getting in her way and I was relaxed and trying to calm her down.

Sometimes I take the advice if it comes from the right person...and other times I do it my way! :)

Hope you have a great day love.

  17. A beautiful picture. :) I had to smile when I read what you wrote. :) My mum and I have grown towards each other through the years. We now have a very good relationship, founded on mutual respect and support for each other. I love her to death and as she now is turned 70 I realize she is not going to stay with me forever. :)
My mum and I have both creative skills, but only I have worked with this in a job and had a career in interior design. My mother has always encouraged me to go even further and is still somewhat pushing me to develop myself. I love her for that. ♥ I have written and illustrated a children's book, which I have got plenty of good feedback from. However, I haven't gone to a publisher with it, so it still's lies in my office drawer. Ha, ha. My eldest daughter has threatened me to one day kidnap the book.
I love to encourage my own 3 children to reach after and go for their dreams and hopes in life. Right now my eldest daughter has therefore voluntarily committed herself to the Norwegian army for a year. She this January she has gone through extremely tough tests and has now been selected to be a special trained border soldier to protect the border between Norway and Russia. I'm so proud and I admirer my little, strong and so feminine daughter for following one of her goals and dreams in life.
PS! I also like a neutral palette in my interior, however I love to see your wonderful bright and happy colors you like. I think it's right that opposite attracts and that's why I love your style. :)
Wishing you a beautiful day, Kellie!

  19. Opposites attract....my mom and I have many things in common but defintley have our differences too..and its been the subject of many a healthy debate TRUST ME ON THAT! Love her so much and I am pretty much a strong believer in what I like and dont' like and am ashamed to say I don't take the advice of others so readily..not sure if thats good or bad but its honestly the truth. That picture is a riot!

  21. My Mum is forever worried about some of my 'hair-brained ideas' , as she would call them. I think she just likes worrying in general!
