Clean before a break?

My best friend Kate and I had this conversation the other day. For me, before the weekend, I have to clean and re-organise my house. Why? Because I cannot relax knowing that it isn't all sorted. Perhaps cleaning and tidying up means I am letting go of the previous week's work. So tonight you can guarantee i'll be vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing....

For Kate though, she couldn't think of anything worse after a week of work, coming home on a Friday (or for this weekend, a Thursday) and spend the night cleaning. She spends it relaxing and worrying about dusting another day. That night is all about Kate and her partner and spending it just how she pleases.

I kind of wish I could do that but I know i'd try it and be annoyed by every bit of fluff i saw!

Pedantic!? Possibly! Anyone else like me? Kellie x

  1. For us, it's Saturday morning. The house must be spotless before midday, then the rest of the weekend is to relax.

  2. Completely like you, but tonight like Kate...it's been an exhausting week. Why are short weeks always like that I wonder? Enjoy your cleaning and the break that follows.

  3. I am like you. I do the dishes every night and the kitchen has to be clean and the rooms tidy before I can go to sleep. Otherwise, I can't sleep a wink! Somehow, I can enjoy breakfast the next morning and wake up in such a much better mood. You are not alone.

  4. Hee hee Kellie, I have just taken a break from scrubbing the bathroom to read a few of my fave blogs! I can't concentrate on study, relax with the family or sometimes just plain breathe properly if I haven't gotten everything in order before the weekend. Hope you get your cleaning done so you can enjoy a wonderful long weekend ~ Tina xx

  5. Kellie can relate to that. I like to have the house all tidy before the weekend begins. I have vacuumed before work and do all the washing Friday night and that way its all done. Hate leaving the kids uniforms to the last minute. It's all done now and put away for the holidays. Happy Easter Sandy x

  7. I'm like you Kellie, I like to know everything is clean and tidy before I can relax. Hope you get all your chores done so you can enjoy the long weekend x

  8. I'm afraid I'm like your friend Kate. Though I'm a clean-freak, Friday night is definitely not the time. Come Saturday, and I'll get stuck in. These short weeks are confusing though!

  9. Yup...I confess...I cannot relax when the house looks like a dump...its depresses me...to be a cluttered messy house is a cluttered messy mind..I need to feel happy in order to relax..and what makes me happy is to have the house looking presentable...even if its not a major clean...it has to be tidy.
My mum always used to say to me...you run the house..dont let the house run you! I guess its important to recognise when you just need to relax for a minute and balance family time with the mundane chores that...lets face it...are never ending and will always be there.

Its also nice to come back home to a nice clean house..lol..even if you will have loads of washing to do when you get back..lol

  11. Yes Kellie, I'm just like you! I cannot think of relaxation if my house is a mess! But I prefet to do my cleanings in the morning and, if I want to have some relaxing time with my family, I just wake up earlier to clean and have the rest of the day free!! Have a happy Easter!

  12. Kellie I am in the cleaning camp too! I really wish I wasn't and could just chill out but I also can't relax in messy surroundings. What a bore - right am off with my duster and mop :-) xxx

  13. oh no, i'm with your friend Kate, friday night is for relaxing.

for me the big whip round is saturday morning, sometimes even before breakfast. I go crazy, get it all sorted, then sit down with a fresh coffee and enjoy.

  14. I can't relax either unless all the work is done. I don't like going out unless it's all pretty much done anyway, but at the end of the week, I walk in the door and don't sit down until everything is sparkling. Then the weekend is all mine...

  15. I'm a Kate....wish I could find the middle ground between the two, but evidently, I have a high tolerance for clutter!
I love the ruffling on the pillows and the pleats. I use pleats alot because they are a little more tailored but still give an air of femininity.
    Have a great Easter!

  16. I use to be like you until I wore myself out, literally. We women can't do it all. I think it is all about balance but go with the flo is a much easier way to live. I never have any big messes just because I am a neat freak but I do allow time to get some RandR. I will admit I can not cook unless the kitchen is all cleaned up. you just like things to look pretty and clean is pretty to you, Just make sure You Enjoy the Process,Kathysue

  17. I have to admit I am a bit of a neat freak. When I purchase something new (whether it be for the house or my closet) I have a one-in-one-out rule to avoid clutter. They know me very well now at the local Goodwill donation center, lol.

  19. I am JUST like you, Kellie! I definitely have to have everything neat and clean before I can relax and enjoy the weekend! I thought I was a bit nuts, it makes me feel so much better to know that there are others out there like us!

  20. My mom is like you! I am more like Kate... Though, when I have these very heavy working time, what makes me calmer is to, at least, tide up the bedroom! Nothing like a clean bedroom and a fresh made bed to put me on the clouds! :-) (I find it quite weird of myself, but it is true! hihihi)

    Have a lovely weekend!

  21. Yes, guilty. My son says I clean too much. Really I straighten up most of the time but I can't relax when things are a mess. I can't even start cooking until my Kitchen is spotless. I admit, I'm a virgo, but I'm constantly working on not being a complete perfectionist. Actually, I can let things go over the weekend somewhat... but by Monday I have to set things in order or I can't function the rest of the week. Wow, I think you touched a button :)
    Happy Easter Kelllie!

  22. I like to see everything clean and tidy (constant reason for annoyance with the kids for that) but friday night? no, I can't do anything at night! just relax, rest and wait until tomorrow. haha! happy Easter Kellie! xo

  23. I would rather clean on Saturday or Sunday rather than Friday. Friday is a definite day to relax for me.

  24. i laughed reading this because i thought you were talking about me! i too like to kick off the weekend with a clean house. in fact i'm looking around my little cottage today (thursday) and thinking "i need to do that tomorrow", and "that", oh and i'll clean "that". that's me. but in a way it also preps for the next week to come, i hate starting off a new week, behind on things. :)

  27. I am like your friend..I don't worry about the cleaning on a Friday night. I seriously don't stress at all unless it's really really messy. Too many other nice things to do... :D
