Chocolate brownies...

I made these delicious brownies for my lovely grandfather, whilst not too pretty to look at, they oozed chocolate and were out of this world. We had 3 pieces left to enjoy with coffee on the weekend whilst checking samples, making choices, checking off things on my to do list. Kellie xx

Here are a few snaps of my weekend. Loving the beautiful new peacock fabric that just arrived, it has a beautiful bold navy and white stripe on the underside which i adore! Also, there is Molly modelling my lovely new basket which is perfect for carrying around when picking lovely blooms at the flower markets - looks like Luke is out of a job (which he will be most pleased about!)

Before Christmas, when I posted about Lily and Molly's disastrous hair cuts, i received quite a few emails from lovely readers who were quite upset about it! I'm pleased to let everyone know that their fur is growing again, slowly, but definitely getting there. Here's are some shots of the puppies relaxing on our bed on the weekend.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

After a much needed break, I'm back and very excited about 2012. Our holiday was lovely, spent time with family, pottered around and worked on wonderful things for the coming months. I have taken a few snaps of some things around my home that have been in play these last few weeks....

Have loved to relax in beautiful bright Camillas, shoulder strapped bags that have changed my life (no more headaches from carrying heavy bags), playing with gorgeous glass and lovely fragrances in my home, a favourite summer fragrance, fabulous new (and very tall) shoes and divine prints for customers.....

Busy, busy but wonderful.

I get so much pleasure out of writing Ada & Darcy and living and breathing lovely colour and design. It always amazes me that you stop by to see what is happening.

2011 has been filled with so many opportunities that I never could have dreamed possible and whilst i will be away from the blog until early January, I will be working behind the scenes getting ready for some exciting news and changes in 2012. And for the in between times, i'll be spending some time at the beach with Luke, Lily and Molly; my idea of perfection.

Sophistication vs messy...

I adore this desk, its really rustic but there is something so stylish and sophisticated about it! My desk is an absolute schmozzle right now... Right now im looking at colour charts, fabric samples, sunglasses, pens, nailpolish, calculator, nail file, camera, clutch, paper, note pad, lip gloss. Yep, as i said a complete and utter schmozzle! Miscommunication...

We dropped Lily and Molly off to the doggy day spa and asked for them to have a lovely trim, tidy their ears etc. We had to head out in the afternoon and my Mum helped out picking them up. When she arrived she wasn't sure she picked up the right dogs - thank goodness they were excited to see her! All i could do was laugh... Little Molly in that last shot looks as though she is thinking "what on earth have they done"?! . Oh well i suppose makes those beach trips quite easy when the puppies need to dry! Kellie xx

I put this combination together for a customer and when a friend saw it, she begged me to make some for her home as well! Just loving them with the peonies too. Those flowers are too beautiful for words.

In other news, what a busy week! Running around sorting things for the most wonderful customers and planning new things for the coming year - so much to do and not enough hours in the day. I'm just so excited though, its full steam ahead. I had a really annoying week last week but this week seems so much more productive. Fingers and toes crossed the week continues like this!

Weekend Dessert!

I made vanilla panacotta over the weekend and instead of passionfruit, i used mangoes and strawberries for a change. This dessert is one of Luke's favourites, and best of all, it takes about 5 minutes to get mixed up to be popped into the fridge. I just love summer fruits, i cannot wait for peaches and plums to come into season.

Hong Kong - Updated!

Just arrived back from a little bit of time in Hong Kong, i'll show you all a few more pictures later today... Off to play A&D PR this AM!

I must say, whilst i had an amazing time, I missed Australia and was so glad to come back to our home, the clear sky, the open space and the puppies of course! Kellie xx

Updated....

Below are some further pictures of our time in Hong Kong. I think what amazed me most was with the obsession with designer stores and the mix of street markets to almost immediately beautiful, high end boutiques. Wearing a size 41 or 42, the largest shoe size in a boutique we found was a 38.5, being 5ft 11' sadly my feet didnt even get to try on a shoe! Needless to say, my credit card was most relieved!

We stayed at the W Hotel and pictures are below. I actually loved this place and to be honest, I couldn't fault it. The service was outrageously wonderful, the decor was fun, the pool as you will see was stunning and it was in a lovely place, right on top of a beautiful shopping centre.

Picture 1 - Walking on the streets of Hong Kong - one of the very few streets that wasn't grid lock with cars

Picture 2 & 3- Trying on Dame Edna style sunglasses at the Night Markets - for those who love sparkles on their sunglasses, at $3-$5 a pair, you could have a different pair for every day of the week!

Picture 4 - Pretty bangles from the markets. These all cost me about $1.

Picture 5 - Hong Kong by night and the bamboo scaffolding which would be build way up into the sky. Obviously it must be rather strong but being used to steel in Australia, I couldn't help but a feel a little nervous looking at it!

Picture 6 & 7 - I loved our lift area in the hotel which was styled with all white pieces of books and white interesting odds and sods - kind of like the gorgeous stuff from Have You Met Miss Jones. The ceilings also had fabulous detailing which gave the space a glamorous feeling.

Picture 8 & 9 - The pool and spa area at the hotel was on the 76th floor and could be seen from a distance across alot of Hong Kong because of the beautiful purple lights which shone on a mosaic tiled wall with the most gorgeous butterfly detailing. You can see from the size of me compared to the wall how huge it was and also how high the pool is compared to the building lights along side it.

Picture 10 - The view from our room. Only 1 day you could see the islands in the distance, most days it was quite hazy like this which really made me appreciate home

We also visited Macau which was possibly even more hazy and I was shocked with the amount of people trying to get through customs to go to the casino's. People were pushing in and yelling at each other which kept our wait in the customs line much more entertaining. Chivalry was certainly dead in Macau!

Lily and Molly needed some more zooshing at the puppy dog spa. They come equipped with their bows which always makes me laugh. Molly's ears came home like Lily's being all fluffy however the second she walks into the door, her ears (mainly the left) go for a deep swim in the water bowl! Have a fabulous weekend! Kellie xx

Here is our first bunch of hydrangeas from the garden. They are little but nonetheless I find it very satisfying picking them for the first time. Being fairly tall, I possibly don't need much more height however I couldn't resist these. I popped them up high (away from our pupplies to look at them). Weekend cupcakes

Whilst things are busy at Ada & Darcy HQ's, it's never too busy to bake! I decided to make some cupcakes for a friend who has been telling me for weeks she would love one.

I intended to make lemon coloured icing until i realised that it had tipped out everywhere (oops) then thought lilac would be pretty. Sadly after putting too much pink in i think i kind of saved the colour from being quite revolting to this somewhat soft, muted tone! Its a bit of a funny colour but hopefully by throwing on a few sprinkles no one noticed! Kellie xx

Here is 1 of 6 dining chairs going out to a lovely client who wanted something bright and gorgeous for her dining area. We had these gorgeous striped cushions made as well, you can just see the beautiful metallic stripe which give them such a glamorous look. That floral fabric is still one of my fabrics, i just can't get enough of it! Kellie xx

Baking Time! Raspberry & White Chocolate Friands....

I quickly made these delicious raspberry and white chocolate friands yesterday afternoon whilst trying to work through a to do list that just seems to be getting longer! Ignore the chunks of icing sugar, i couldn't quite find the sifter so i had to improvise!

My lovely friend Tamara who is quite the baker always makes these and why they weren't anywhere near as good, Luke and I aren't too fussy and enjoyed them anyway. I'm not too good with following the recipe and these had about double the amount of white chocolate than they were supposed to have!

The recipe is below if you would like to try it.

Recipe:

125g fresh or frozen raspberries
185g butter, melted
6 egg whites
100g packet almond meal
1/2 cup plain flour
1 1/2 cups icing sugar mixture
100g white chocolate, chopped

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Lightly grease 8 x 1/2 cup capacity loaf friand pans.

Crush 1/2 cup (75g) of the raspberries, place in large bowl with butter, egg whites, almond meal, flour, sugar and chocolate, and mix until combined.

Pour evenly among prepared pans. Scatter with remaining raspberries.

Bake 25 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean. Stand 5 minutes before turning onto wire rack to cool.

Dust with icing sugar.

Bunches of blooms ...

Our lovely, what were little geraniums suddenly became out of control and needed a big trim. Consequently after a whole lot of cutting back on Sunday, i was left with lots and lots of gorgeous little bunches of flowers, I found all the little glass vases I had and popped them around our home... Below is a couple of bunches on the end of a side table with other bits and bobs.

I also noticed that our first hydrangea flower has come out! I was very excited to see it as our back garden feels a bit green, not too long before the green should turn into a whole lot of gorgeousness. It also means that many of my other favourite flowers will be almost available at the flower markets - spring/summer is always my favourite time of year!

I thought I would try some left over pieces with gorgeous black and white and i'm really happy with the result. Beautiful and bright, perfect for spring. Caramel and Chocolate Muffins

Yesterday I baked these Caramel and Chocolate Muffins with caramel sauce (i also added icecream as they were served warm). And, they were very, very delicious. Inside the muffins are whole bits of caramel and chocolate chunks. Perhaps not the most healthy option, but, really good nonetheless! The recipe is below... Have a lovely week. Kellie xx

Recipe:

100g caramel-filled chocolate block
2 cups plain flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
80g butter, melted

Caramel sauce
100g butter, chopped
2/3 cup brown sugar
125ml pouring cream
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Method:

Place chocolate in freezer for 1 hour or until frozen. Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a non-stick, 12-hole, 1/3 cup-capacity muffin pan. Sift flour and baking powder into a large bowl. Add sugar and stir to combine. Make a well in the centre.
Combine milk, egg and butter in a jug and pour into well. Using a large metal spoon, stir until just combined. Chop frozen chocolate and fold into batter. Three-quarters fill muffins holes with batter.
Bake muffins for 20 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Allow muffins to cool in pan for 1 minute. Carefully transfer to plates.

Meanwhile, place butter and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, for 3 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and whisk in cream. Return pan to heat.

I was very excited to see over the weekend our gorgeous two geraniums have lots of blooms all over them. They are the most delightful tones of pink.

Such gorgeous flowers. I picked these up at the flower markets on Saturday, i slept in and seemed they must have been ready to pack up and go home as i picked these lovely blooms up (plus 2 more bunches that are in another large ginger jar) for $12! My world...

Here's a few snippets into my world this past week.

Our room was such a mess. It was at the point where I couldn't find shoes, clothes, face products etc... I'd been meaning to do it for a while but it was so out of control i was putting it off. Bags and bags of clothes for vinnies later, I had have lots of organisation and space and my shoes were back in order. Amazing how such a horrid task can make you feel so good! Now I can wear two shoes that match!!

Yes, our room, much represented this kind of disorganisation!!

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of our white door. Pondering other options...
