An early flower market visit...

The ever lovely and supportive Luke came to the flower markets with me, we were there at 4.45am for a 5am opening! Have i ever told you that I hate crowds? Yep, I do, can't help it so thought the earlier we go the better especially with mother's day tomorrow and every person in Sydney having the same idea as me...

And wasn't I right! The flower markets were jam packed at 5.15am just when we were leaving. I grabbed a few pretty bunches and was out of there. Back to bed actually!

What a morning, feels like it was all a dream... Then I popped into our laundry and see all those gorgeous blooms waiting for me. Have a lovely Saturday everyone! Kellie xx

Ps. Promise to show you them soon... xx

Some fabric favourites

I do love fabrics. Touching, playing and staring at them. As you can see, I particularily love florals and Sanderson do this so incredibly well. Here are some of my favourites from their current range. Kellie xx

Delicious little chocolate mousse cakes!

I have been thinking about making something extra yummy on the weekend and thought this might me a delicious option... Sadly I don't think I will be sharing with my guests these images from Canelle et Vanille as absolutely under any circumstances will mine come out looking remotely like this. They may taste ok, but good looking, they certainly will not be! Luckily though, I have had a lovely mother who has always been incredibly encouraging and couldn't care less how on earth these little babies turned out! Thank goodness I say... Kellie xx

Chocolate and Hazelnut Biscuit

makes 1/2 sheet pan

180 grams egg whites
185 grams muscovado sugar
75 grams sugar
150 grams hazelnut flour
20 grams cocoa powder
pinch salt
225 grams butter, melted or coconut oil

Whisk together the egg whites and the sugars. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and add the whites to the dry. Whisk until combined. Whisk in the melted and cooled butter or the coconut oil.

Line half a sheetpan with parchment paper and spread the batter evenly.

Bake at 350F for about 15-20 minutes until cake baked.

Chocolate Mousse

enough for 10 3x2 ring molds

45 grams sugar
100 grams egg yolks
300 grams dark chocolate (use couverture if you can)
400 ml heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks

In the bowl of an electric mixer, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until combined. Bring the bowl to a double boiler and cook until it starts to thicken, like making a sabayon. Remove from heat and bring to the mixer and whip to a thick ribbon.

In the meantime, melt the chocolate over a double boiler and let it cool.

When sabayon has cooled, fold in the soft peak whipped cream. Whisk some of the chocolate into it and then, fold in the rest.

Place the mousse in a piping bag. Line ring molds with acetate paper or parchment paper the fits around the circumference. Cut a disk of chocolate biscuit and place it on the bottom of the ring mold. Pipe in the chocolate mousse and refrigerate until set.

Coconut Mousse

150 ml heavy cream
30 ml heavy cream (to temper the gelatin)
10 grams freshly grated coconut or unsweeneted dry coconut
1 tsp coconut extract, optional
30 grams sugar
1 sheet of gelatin
100 grams plain whole yogurt

Whip the 150ml heavy cream with the sugar, coconut and coconut extract till soft peaks form. In the meantime, bloom the gelatin in ice water for 5 minutes. Squeeze out the excess water.

Heat the 30ml of heavy cream and dissolve the gelatin into it. Fold in a bit of the whipped cream into the gelatin mixture to temper. Fold back into the rest of the cream. Fold in yogurt.

Place the mousse in a piping bag and pipe on top of the chilled chocolate mousse. Refrigerate until it sets and serve with coconut shavings.

I heart this...

Aren't those little blue knitted hearts just beautiful, throw that in with some stunning tulle and it's a recipe for pretty success! Those tea lights in old jars in the natural light are lovely indeed as well.

Im spending part of my afternoon at the dentist, something I absolutely do not like even though they are always so lovely and welcoming to me (and incredibly understanding of my fear). Fingers crossed for a quick and painless visit! Kellie xx

Neutral style

I feel I have been throwing colour after colour this week and thought it was about time I shared a neutral palette with you. Also, quite timely with the Alex Perry show at Australian Fashion Week!

And frankly this is perfect proof both fashion and interior wise that neutrals are always so stylish, classic and beautifully elegant. Kellie xx

A boring old set of drawers

What a beautiful way to jazz up a boring old set of drawers... Shame I am not that talented with the paintbrush when it comes to details! Kellie xx

Lunch time table setting

I am very excited about this Sunday as it's Mother's Day! I'm planning on making a lovely lunch for Mum and some delicious desserts. Im also really looking forward to heading off to the flower markets early Saturday morning before the rush to find some little beauties for the table setting. This year I am thinking of using lots of variations of pink in the flowers in lots of little vessels. I promise to show you all some pictures of my selection looking pretty (hopefully) on the table waiting for Mum to arrive. Kellie x

Making black pretty

Isn't the black such an interesting and lovely introduction to this room. And so surprising. You don't often associate black with pretty tulle and floral. Nor do you think black as a "soft" colour but it works magically well here. Perhaps that lovely tulle skirt below could work beautifully with black as well...

Using colour in your home

My lovely readers often say to me that they are nervous playing with colour and often find themselves sticking with safer options that they "know" they will like. Whilst I too adore whites and neutrals, I find it very rewarding to try brighter options on furniture and accessorising with pops of colour.

I have also become braver over time and started to realise, using colour on items that can be changed is the perfect way to give something a new look and lift without feeling locked in. My favourite way to use colour is on smaller items of furniture, cushions and accessories as they can be moved around the home and updated again very easily.

For my Australian readers who are thinking about venturing out into painting furniture with brighter options I would highly recommend Porters Paints who offer the most delightful selection of colours. And the best thing about the Porters range is they sell little tiny samples so you aren't forced to buy 1 litre of paint, you can take a couple of little samples home, try them out and then make an informed decision about the best colour for you. Too easy I say!

I thought these examples were beautiful uses of colour. Fun, quirky and interesting. Kellie xx

Monday - Again!?

What is it about Monday mornings? We live for the weekend and when Monday pops around again I always have that sense of disappointment like I have never felt Monday-itis before!

I really should be out of bed before 7am but I take some short cuts to get me to work early enough and still have a bit of extra time snoozing. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for dropping by Ada & Darcy! Kellie

A living space perfect for a Sunday?

What an appropriate interior for a crisp, sunny Sunday morning. Perfect for relaxing, having a cup of tea and reading the paper. All that natural light works a treat doesn't it, there isn't anything quite like it really. Kellie xx
