A meal to remember...

I am absolutely no food critic however I have to say that I had possibly the best meal today I have ever had. I went to Bird Cow Fish in Surry Hills (for my international readers an inner Sydney suburb) and ordered the gnocchi with prawns, burnt, verjuice and crispy sage. Oh my, it was absolutely amazing and I would never normally order gnocchi! I was sad when I had eaten it all!

If you have not already been there, please, please go and try it and if you have been and didn't select the gnocchi, you must return. Delicious.

I'm planning on when I can return for round two. Wow, wow, wow.... Kellie xx

A decor lesson for my husband...

Seems my husband who really doesn't have the same love for interiors had forgotten what the Ghost Chair was. Silly boy!! Here is an example of how gorgeous they are. Beautiful. Just what I need for my desk too hint hint haha!! Kellie xx

Having to be resourceful...

Times are tough. My garden of flowers is almost non-existent. It's kind of in between season, too early for my annuals like sweet peas so i've had to become resourceful and see what I can find around my garden. Still, any flowers are good flowers to me.

Think I really need to make a trip to the flower markets and find some lovely roses to keep me happy over the weekend. Kellie x

Waving my light fitting wand...

I saw this image today and it reminded me of a house I see every day and each time I look at the light fitting I just wish I could put something else in their beautiful home. It's one exactly like this one here and personally I just don't feel it does the house the justice it deserves. It looks to me as though the designer choose it as it was the 'fashionable' thing to do at the time. Don't get me wrong, I love fashion and I actually think the light fitting would look perfect in the right home, just sometimes I don't think fashion applies to every possible design opportunity.

It's such a lovely home and the people who live in their are just a delight so I actually feel bad every time I look at the light and wish that I could wave my wand and swap it for something else. The home needs some thing fabulous and industrial like a big cluster of different sized glass ball light fittings, hanging together by metal rods. And at night time the lighting feature will look grand and stylish and fit perfectly with the home's aesthetic.

Does anyone else have the same thoughts to me around "fashionable" things and everything having a place? Perhaps i'm also being a fuss pot... Kellie xx

Another job nearly ticked off the list

I was very excited to finally hear my sample floorboards are on their way to us. I have chosen a gorgeous dark chocolate brown colour that I will share with you all as soon as it lands in my hands! They are similar to those in the pictures, possibly a little darker - just like a coffee bean.

They have a reasonable amount of gloss on them to give them a glamourous, stylish look but not too much that they will show up every scratch and bump. And, anyone who knows me is well aware of how clumsy and accident prone I am.

A vintage day - breakfast this time...

Seems I have vintage on my mind today. Loved this fabulous breakfast and all the divine vessels found all over the table. I do love pancakes - maple syrup and ice cream for me. Oh and make that whipped butter too, that's actually double butter please. YUM! Kellie x

A project over time...

I adore this look, bits and pieces all thrown together effortlessly. And, what I like most about it is that you cannot just decide to pull it together one day. All those lovely little things needed to be collected over time, found here and there to make the final masterpiece. A touch of this and a tad of that - nothing really matching of course but works in together like it was meant to be... Kellie xx

A long weekend treat...

We spent Monday afternoon after a lovely weekend sitting outside enjoying some wine and some cupcakes and biscuits I made over the weekend. I found the Anzac biscuit recipe here.

I kind of did my own things with the cupcake icing and they turned out delicious...

Cake:
125 gm soft unsalted butter
110 gm (½ cup) caster sugar
3 eggs
80g white chocolate melted
110 gm (3/4 cup plain flour)
1tsp baking powder

Icing:
250gm softened butter
1 1/2 cup icing sugar sifted
4 fresh passionfruit
80g white chocolate melted
1tsp vanilla extract

Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs one at a time, beating well after each, then add white chocolate and stir to combine. Sift flour and baking powder over cake batter and fold in until combined. Line two 6-hole (1/3 cup-capacity) muffin tins with 8 paper cases, then divide mixture among cases and bake at 180C for 20 minutes or until cakes spring back when lightly pressed.

For icing, using an electric mixer, beat butter until pale and fluffy, add icing sugar and beat until soft peaks form, then add passionfruit, white chocolate and vanilla extract and beat until combined. Spread frosting over cupcakes and serve.

Giving a tired table a new look

I am feeling a little sick and tired of our dining room table and have decided a pretty tablecloth is a simple and effective way to give it a new look. I have decided on the second one from Anthropologie firstly for the pretty frill and secondly for the lovely mixture of bright colours. Then I can mix my things I have around my house to change its centrepiece every few days or so. Sounds like a very good plan to me xx
